Is your teen's TikTok linked to yours?

Look Twice | Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Good morning.

Going around now: what TikTok showed a 13-year-old test account

West Virginia's attorney general is suing TikTok, WDTV reports. His office set up two test accounts. One was an adult. The other was a 13-year-old girl.

The office says the girl's feed kept getting sexually suggestive videos. The adult's feed was mostly home improvement and local restaurants.

The suit also says TikTok makes kids easy to find and contact. It says a child's public details can help a predator pretend to be another kid.

There's one more catch. Teen accounts once had a hidden link to unlink from parental controls, NPR reports, citing a 2021 internal chat. TikTok says it tells parents when a teen unlinks. It also called the story "cherry-picked."

TikTok's Family Pairing lets you set some of your teen's controls from your own TikTok account. You can also get an alert if they unlink.

Do this today:

  1. Open TikTok on your phone. Tap Profile, then the menu, then Settings and privacy, then Family Pairing. TikTok's steps are here.

  2. Tap Continue, choose Parent, then tap Next. Follow the steps to link your teen's account.

  3. Turn on Customized updates and more push notifications. That's how you hear if your accounts get unlinked.

Do it with your teen, not behind their back. It works better as a deal than a trap.

Quick alerts

  • Florida financial aid breach. Florida's education department says a breach may have hit about 4.9 million people. The data may include Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses. Ever applied for Florida aid? Get your free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com. Think about a credit freeze.

  • Fake charity prize calls. The FTC warns about callers who say you won a prize from a charity you support. Real prizes are free. If someone asks you to pay to claim one, hang up.
